OUR PASTOR
REVEREND DR. KAY F. ALBURY
Rev. Dr. Kay F. Albury is a native of Miami, Florida. Presently, she is the mother of one son, Jason C. Smith and daughter-in-“love,” Nicole Street Smith who parent three daughters: Kiah, Makayla and Jayla. Also, she is the proud mother of one daughter, Rev. Alexis Brown. She and her husband, Chris Brown, her son in “love” parent four daughters: Sydney, Jordyn, Kamryn and Symone. However, Rev. Kay Albury keeps close to her heart the memories of her oldest two sons, Anthony and Lonzel Smith who transitioned too soon after succumbing to cancer.
Upon graduating from Miami Killian Senior High School in 1968 (Miami, Florida), Rev. Albury received: an Associate of Arts Degree in 1970 from Miami Dade Junior College -South; 1972 a Bachelors of Arts Degree, Howard University, Washington, DC; 1980, a Master’s of Divinity Degree, Gammon Theological Seminary (The Interdenominational Theological Center, Atlanta, Georgia); and in 2021, a Doctor of Ministry Degree, Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary, Evanston, Illinois.)
Rev. Dr. Albury was Ordained as a Deacon in 1979 and Ordained as an Elder in 1981 with full membership of the Baltimore-Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church. Consequently, she has served as pastor to six different congregations over the past 44 years. They are Asbury UMC, (Washington, DC) [Associate Pastor]1980-1982; Grace UMC (Fairmount Heights, MD), 1982-1985; Ames Memorial UMC, (Baltimore, MD), 1985-2004; Brooks UMC, (Prince Frederick, MD) 2004-2009; Asbury Town Neck UMC, (Severna Park, MD) 2009-2011; Baltimore-Washington Conference Guide, Baltimore Metropolitan District, 2011-2013; and St. Matthew UMC, (Dundalk/Turner Station, MD) 2013-present.
She has served in many capacities besides pastoring. They include clergy delegate to both General and Jurisdictional Conferences; Director at West River Summer Camps, Clergy Member of the General Board of Pensions and Health Benefits; the Conference and District Boards of Ordained Ministry.
Her hobbies include watching tennis, basketball, and football; playing pickleball; traveling, reading, writing, singing and playing an acoustic guitar.
Her favorite scripture verse is:
“I will not offer God anything that costs me nothing.”
